Best ESO Builds 2026 - Every Class and Role

Most build lists hand you a gear setup and stop. That is the easy half. The hard half is that a five piece trial set sits behind a weekly lockout, a mythic needs five antiquity leads scattered across three zones, and one of the sets in the current top parsing build comes from an event that closed in June.

So this guide does both. Every build below carries its sets, its mundus stone and its bars. Every set carries where it drops and what it costs you in play time. Pick a build you can actually finish.

The Elder Scrolls Online has never had more viable setups than it does now. It has also never made them harder to assemble. Powerful builds for ESO are cheap to read about and expensive to own. That gap is the point of this page.

Short answer: On Update 50 the highest parsing setups are Magicka Warden at roughly 187k and Werewolf at roughly 186k on a trial dummy, per Hyperioxes parse data. For everyone below endgame, the best build in ESO is the strongest one whose gear you can realistically farm this month.

ESO trial sets 🚀

Trial sets are the real wall. Weekly lockouts mean a trial set in the right trait is a multi week project no matter how good you are, because the limiting factor is calendar time, not skill. Our ESO trial sets service and Lucent Citadel carries exist because that wall is made of weeks, not difficulty.

🎯 What is the best build in ESO right now?

There is no single answer, and anyone giving you one is selling something. There are three honest answers depending on what you play.

For group PvE damage, Magicka Warden parses highest on Update 50. For solo and overland content, a one bar Oakensoul setup wins on effort per result. For player versus player, the answer changed in June. Update 50 shipped PvP Veterancy. Most PvP set lists have not caught up.

Which one is right for you depends on your playstyle, not on a leaderboard. Player versus environment rewards sustained damage. Player versus player rewards burst and survival.

Here is the current parse ranking. These are dummy numbers from Hyperioxes, measured on Update 50, and they are the best public like for like comparison available.

Read that table twice. The gap between the top two bar build and the top one bar build is about 47k. The gap between a well played 140k one bar Nightblade and a badly played 187k Warden is zero, because the badly played Warden does not hit 187k.

🏆 The ESO build tier list for 2026

Werewolf sits in B rather than A on purpose. It parses 186k today. Update 51 raises Pounce stamina cost from 1,071 to 3,213, raises Roar from 1,071 to 3,443, and cuts werewolf healing by roughly 10 to 13 percent. Building a werewolf this week means rebuilding it in ten days.

🧩 How subclassing changed every Elder Scrolls Online build

Subclassing arrived in Update 46 in 2025. It quietly rewrote build design. You can replace up to two of your three class skill lines with lines borrowed from other classes, keeping at least one original line, and you cannot take two lines from the same donor class.

Then Update 50 added Class Mastery, and with it the decision that now defines every Elder Scrolls Online build.

Class Mastery gives you two free passives from a pool of five, no skill points spent. Unlocking it requires level 50 in all three of your native class skill lines and no borrowed lines equipped. ESO-Hub states the rule plainly. "If you are subclassing, Class Mastery Passives can't be used."

That is the whole tension. Subclassing gives you flexibility. Class Mastery gives you free stats. You cannot have both on the same character.

Look back at the parse table. Every single build in it runs Class Mastery, not subclassing. Hyperioxes builds the Magicka Warden around Wild Adaptation and Glacial Obstinance. The Stamina Arcanist uses Unbound Potential and Fate Realigned. The Templar healer takes Bright Harbinger and Bastion of Light.

So when is subclassing correct? Three cases. Solo play, where a Sorcerer Storm Calling and Arcanist Herald of the Tome pairing solves sustain and damage at once. Support roles that need one specific borrowed skill. And any character who simply finds their own class boring.

For a pure parse chase in group PvE, Class Mastery is ahead right now. Borrowed lines start at level one. If you want to test a combination without burning weeks of skill line grinding, our ESO subclass leveling service takes one to fifty so you can try it before committing.

Class Mastery Scripts are a separate system with a confusingly similar name. Do not mix them up. Those are Scribing signature scripts, one per class, and each one costs 50 Class Script Scraps. Scraps drop from trial coffers, arena runs, Infinite Archive, daily dungeon rewards, Master Writs and Cyrodiil Elder Scroll captures. Our Scribing overview covers the grimoire system the scripts slot into.

ArzyeL Gaming ranks the same Update 50 damage classes on video.

The Thief is the mundus we would put on all five. It is the standard critical rating pick for PvE damage and nothing in these setups argues against it. Food varies by sustain need, and the pattern across every listed build is a tri stat or damage food rather than a recovery food.

Notice how much overlap there is. Merciless Charge appears on four of the five back bars. Whorl of the Depths appears on three bodies. Slimecraw appears three times. Farm those three and you are most of the way to four different builds.

Warden builds: the highest parsing class in Update 50

Warden holds first and third place, and both setups run the same gear. The difference is which resource pool you build into and which spammable you press.

Magicka Warden runs Traveling Knife as its spammable with Subterranean Assault, Ulfsild's Contingency, Barbed Trap and Cutting Dive on the front bar. Stamina Warden swaps in Rapid Strikes and Deep Fissure. The back bars barely differ: Winter's Revenge, Arctic Blast, Lotus Blossom and Stampede.

Aerie's Cry is the reason Warden sits on top. It is a Warden exclusive set. Light attacks apply Eagle's Mark, which summons an eagle to hit the target every three seconds for 857 Physical Damage. It drops in the Infinite Archive, so there is no weekly lockout and no twelve player group needed.

That last point matters more than the damage number. Infinite Archive is soloable, repeatable and always available, so the best set in the highest parsing build in the game is also one of the most accessible. The arc grinding is the tedious part. Our Infinite Archive sets service covers it.

Nightblade, Dragonknight and Arcanist DPS builds

Magicka Nightblade at 181k is the arena weapon build. Advancing Yokeda daggers on the front, Merciless Charge on the back, Selene as the monster set. Concealed Weapon is the spammable, with Relentless Focus, Shadowy Disguise and Sap Essence supporting it. Two arena weapon sets is a lot to ask. That is why it sits in A rather than S.

Stamina Dragonknight at 166k is the value pick of the top five. Its sets come from ordinary trials and dungeons rather than arenas. A group with no arena clears can gear it.

Breath Dragonknight at 152k and its one bar version at 132k are the flame damage variants. Both drift down slightly next patch. Update 51 cuts Core of Flame restoration from 15 percent to 12 percent.

Stamina Arcanist at 154k runs beam damage through Pragmatic Fatecarver and Cephaliarch's Flail. Its body set, Spattering Disjunction, drops in Sanity's Edge, and we broke that trial's full set list down in our Sanity's Edge armor sets guide.

Templar, Sorcerer and Necromancer DPS builds

These three are the quiet part of the 2026 meta. None of them appear in the top five parses. All three are completely viable in every piece of content most players run, solo or group.

ArzyeL Builds puts Magicka Sorcerer and Stamina Sorcerer in S tier, alongside Stamina Warden and Stamina Nightblade, and calls Sorcerer the easiest class in the game. Magicka Templar sits in A. Stamina Necromancer and Stamina Templar sit in B. Magicka Necromancer sits in C.

Do not read C tier as unplayable. Read it as needing more buttons for the same result. If you want the full class by class picture before you pick, our ESO classes explained ranking covers all seven.

Necromancer gets a temporary lift in Update 51: Colossus ultimates drop from 175 to 150 ultimate with a 12.5 to 23 percent damage increase. ZeniMax has already said that reverts in Update 52.

Monster sets are cheap and underrated. Slimecraw is a base game dungeon drop and it sits in two of the top three builds in the game. Our monster sets boost covers the shoulder RNG, which is the only genuinely annoying part.

Every role wants its own character ⚔️

Reading a tank build is quick. Getting a character to the level where you can actually test it is the part that eats the month. Our ESO power leveling hands you a character that is ready for the build on this page.

🛡️ Best tank builds

Two notes that will save you gold. Symphony of Blades has fallen off in Update 50 because class sustain improved. Pearls of Ehlnofey has been displaced by Warden supports. Both still appear in guides written before June.

Dreadsail Reef is worth singling out. It supplies Pillager's Profit for healers, Pearlescent Ward for tanks and Whorl of the Depths for damage dealers, which makes it the single highest value trial in the game to farm. Our Dreadsail Reef armor sets guide lists the whole drop table.

🏰 Best PvP builds for Cyrodiil and Battlegrounds

Update 50 shipped PvP Veterancy in June, adding rank progression across every player versus player mode, plus a permanent Vengeance campaign. Most set lists you will find were written before that.

Check the date on any PvP guide before you trust it. Hack the Minotaur's PvP set list is stamped February 2026, which is Update 46. The ESO PvP Builds set tier list is current for Update 50. Use that one.

Cyrodiil builds

Cyrodiil rewards sets that work at range and in numbers. The Update 50 S tier is wider than most players expect.

Three of those ten are crafted and one is bought with Alliance Points. A competitive Cyrodiil build is the cheapest competitive build in ESO, which is the opposite of the PvE picture.

Battlegrounds builds

Battlegrounds changes shape in Update 51. It changes a lot. Two team and three team formats merge into a Big Team Battles queue running 6v6v6 and 9v9. Damage shields get capped at 300 percent of maximum health in small groups, scaling down to 60 percent in twelve player groups. Vengeance mode gains siege weapons, and ability target caps for damage rise from three to twelve.

That shield cap is the one to plan around. Shield stacking builds that work today get blunted in ten days, and area damage gets substantially better in crowds.

Until then, small scale Battlegrounds favours sustain and burst over group utility. Wretched Vitality, Mechanical Acuity and Order's Wrath all carry across from the Cyrodiil list without change. Bombing sets do not. Dark Convergence is much weaker in a four player format than in a Cyrodiil siege.

🧍 Best solo builds and one bar setups

Solo is where the Oakensoul Ring turned build theory upside down. One ring does all of it. Oakensoul grants Minor Berserk, Minor Courage, Major Brutality, Major Sorcery, Major Prophecy, Major Savagery, Minor Force, Minor Protection, Major Resolve, Minor Mending, Minor Fortitude, Minor Intellect, Minor Endurance, Minor Heroism, Minor Slayer, Minor Aegis and Empower. The cost is that you cannot swap weapon bars.

For a player who finds bar swapping uncomfortable, that is not a cost. It is the reason to play.

One caveat with a date on it. Update 51 removes Major Prophecy and Major Sorcery from the game entirely, folding them into the unified Brutality and Savagery buffs, so Oakensoul's list gets shorter on 28 September without the ring getting weaker.

Ring of the Pale Order is the other solo defining mythic. Read its wording twice. "Restore 20% of the damage you deal as Health. This value is decreased by 4% per ally you are grouped with. You cannot be healed by anyone but yourself, your pets, or your Companions."

That is a solo item in the strictest sense. In a four player dungeon it gives you 8 percent, and it locks your healer out of healing you. Take it into a trial and you are a liability.

Both rings are antiquities. Both need five leads. Oakensoul's sit in High Isle volcanic vents, a Stormhaven world boss, Murkmire safeboxes, Malabal Tor monsters and Glenumbra blacksmithing nodes. Pale Order's sit in Bangkorai chests, an Alik'r delve boss, Wrothgar world bosses, a Glenumbra public dungeon and Blackreach: Arkthzand Cavern.

Count that up. Ten leads across nine zones for two rings, which is why our Oakensoul and Pale Order ring bundle exists as a single order.

A beginner solo build you can actually finish

New players should ignore every table above for their first character. Here is the whole build.

  1. Wear Order's Wrath, crafted, any weight, any class. Ask a guild crafter.
  2. Wear Deadly Strike if you use damage over time skills, bought at the Bruma vendor in Cyrodiil for Alliance Points.
  3. Stand on The Thief mundus.
  4. Get to Champion Point 160 so your gear stops being outlevelled.

That is it. No trial. No arena. No antiquity. Two sets, one stone, one level goal, and you can run every piece of overland content and most normal dungeons. Our Champion Points beginner guide explains why 160 is the number that matters.

🎒 What gear does every build need?

Strip away class and role and every build in ESO is the same five decisions.

Five piece body set. Your main damage, healing or mitigation set. Almost always the one that is hardest to farm.

Second five piece or a weapon set. Usually jewelry plus weapons, often an arena weapon at endgame.

Two piece monster set. Head and shoulders. The shoulder comes from Undaunted keys, which is the RNG most players complain about.

Mundus stone. One stone, free to change, and the single most undervalued stat source in the game.

Champion Points. 160 to stop outlevelling gear, then the slottables that match your role.

Mundus stone, Champion Points and food

Seven pieces of gold Divines multiply a mundus stone by roughly 1.64. Here are all thirteen with both values.

Champion Points do more for a mediocre build than a set swap does. Reaching 160 is the hard floor, because below it your gear scales down no matter how good the set is. If your character is parked below that line, power leveling and Champion Points close the gap. Farming will not, not at that pace.

How to optimize a build once the basics are done

Optimise in this order, because the returns fall off sharply after the first three.

  1. Traits and enchants. Wrong trait on a good set beats right trait on a bad one, but only just.
  2. Rotation. Worth more than any set swap. Watch it played rather than read.
  3. Food and potions. Tri stat food for survival, damage food once you stop dying.
  4. Race. A few percent at endgame, close to nothing below it.

Do not reroll a character for race. Do not chase a perfected trial weapon before you can hold a rotation. Both are step four problems dressed up as step one problems.

The build is free. The gear is the grind 🎒

Nothing above works until the sets are farmed, and that is weeks of the same dungeons on repeat. A 160 CP gear set boost puts the pieces on the character so the build starts performing the way the guide says it should.

⚡ How to gear a build fast

Gear a build in this order. It is the cheapest path to the biggest jump.

Step one: Champion Point 160. Nothing else matters until gear stops scaling down.

Step two: two crafted or vendor sets. Order's Wrath plus Deadly Strike or Highland Sentinel. Zero lockouts, zero luck, and it carries you through every piece of overland content and normal dungeons.

Step three: a monster set. Slimecraw from Wayrest Sewers I is in two of the three highest parsing builds in the game and comes from a base game four player dungeon.

Step four: one dungeon set. Sergeant's Mail, Aegis Caller or Pillar of Nirn, depending on your build.

Step five: the trial set. This is the wall. Weekly lockouts turn a five piece body set in the right trait into a project measured in weeks rather than hours, and no amount of skill shortens a lockout.

That last step is where most characters stall, and it is the honest reason boosting services exist for this game. You are not buying skill. You are buying calendar time back.

Three patterns our ESO team sees in build related orders, worth knowing before you order anything:

Most gear orders are for step five, not step one. Players who reach us have usually done the crafted and dungeon work themselves and hit the weekly lockout wall.

Trait matters more than players expect. A five piece set in the wrong trait is a five piece set you will refarm. Decide traits before you start, not after.

Mythics are ordered as bundles far more often than singly. Ten leads across nine zones for the two solo rings is why.

Want a full baseline rather than one set? Our ESO gear services hub covers the lot, the 160 CP PvE gear sets boost handles the step two and four sets together, and ESO mythic items covers the antiquity grind.

The hybridisation work is the big one. Merging Brutality and Savagery is the final step of a multi year project to stop magicka and stamina being separate games, and it means a set or skill that only ever helped one side now helps both.

The practical advice is simple. Do not start a werewolf this week. Do not farm a mundus on The Apprentice. Everything else in this guide holds.

📺 Where to find ESO guides, build guides and build videos

No single website covers every build well. The honest answer to "which build guides should I follow" is more than one. These are the ESO guides our team checks, and what each is genuinely best at.

Hyperioxes publishes parse numbers with its builds and stamps each one with an update version. Every number in our tables above comes from there. When you need to know what actually performs on the current patch, this is the fastest written guide to read.

AlcastHQ runs the widest coverage of builds and guides across every role. Alcast's trial guides are the reference for mechanics rather than gear.

ESO-Hub runs an ESO builds database for 2026 plus set, antiquity and Scribing pages. Its set pages are the quickest way to confirm where something drops.

Hack the Minotaur is the strongest source for solo and one bar builds for all classes. It also publishes a clear last updated date on every page, which most sites do not.

ArzyeL Builds publishes role by role set lists and class tier lists with sources attached, covering builds for every class.

DottzGaming.com is the long running option for new players who want the reasoning behind a build rather than just the setup.

Written guide or build videos: which to use when

For build videos, the large ESO build playlists on YouTube are useful for seeing rotations played rather than written down. A rotation is easier to copy from video. Read the written guide for the gear, watch the video for the hands.

One rule applies to all of them. Check the update stamp. A build written for Update 46 in February 2026 predates subclassing changes, Class Mastery, the werewolf refresh and PvP Veterancy, so any builds for ESO published before June are describing a different game.

ℹ️ ESO builds FAQ

What is the strongest build in Elder Scrolls Online?

On Update 50, Magicka Warden parses highest at roughly 187k on a trial dummy, with Werewolf at 186k and Stamina Warden at 183k. Strongest and best are different questions, because the top builds need trial sets and an arena weapon.

Which class in ESO is the strongest DPS?

Warden, on current parse data, holding first and third place. Nightblade is close behind. ArzyeL Builds ranks Magicka Sorcerer, Stamina Warden, Stamina Nightblade and Stamina Sorcerer in S tier when weighing ease of play alongside ceiling.

Does subclassing matter for ESO builds?

Yes, and the decision cuts both ways. Subclassing lets you borrow up to two skill lines from other classes, but it disables Class Mastery, which grants two free passives. Every build in our parse table runs Class Mastery instead of subclassing.

What are one bar builds in ESO?

Builds that never swap bars. They are usually built around the Oakensoul Ring, which grants seventeen buffs at the cost of bar swapping. The best of them parse around 122k to 140k, which is 47k to 65k below the top two bar builds, for a fraction of the effort.

What are the best builds for beginners in ESO?

Order's Wrath crafted, Deadly Strike from the Bruma vendor, The Thief mundus, Champion Point 160. Two sets, one stone, one level goal, no trials or arenas required, and it clears all overland content and most normal dungeons.

How do I create the perfect build in ESO?

Pick a role, pick a class you enjoy, take the five piece body set you can actually farm, add a crafted second set, add a monster set, stand on the right mundus, and reach CP 160. Optimise after that, not before.

What are the best builds for solo play in ESO?

A one bar Oakensoul setup on Sorcerer or Nightblade for simplicity, or a Ring of the Pale Order build if you want self healing through damage. Pale Order loses 4 percent per grouped ally, so it is genuinely solo only.

Does race matter for ESO builds?

Less than gear, mundus and Champion Points. It is worth a few percent at endgame parse level and close to nothing below that. Do not reroll a character for race until everything else is done.

What is the difference between PvE and PvP builds?

PvE builds optimise sustained damage against a target that does not move. PvP builds optimise burst, mobility and survival against targets that heal. The set pools barely overlap, and Cyrodiil sets are far cheaper to obtain than trial sets.

Will Update 51 change the best builds?

Some of them. Werewolf gets meaningfully weaker, The Apprentice mundus stops being a damage stone, Brutality and Savagery merge, and Battlegrounds caps damage shields. The PvE DPS picture stays broadly the same.

🚀 Gear the build you picked

Pick one build from the tables above, then work the five steps in order: CP 160, crafted sets, monster set, dungeon set, trial set. Most characters stall at step five because weekly lockouts cannot be skilled through.

That is the gap our ESO gear services close. Trial sets for the weekly lockout wall, monster sets for shoulder RNG, and mythic items for the antiquity leads.
