How to prepare your character for high-end content fast? [Dragonflight Guide]

So you've just hit 70 level. Great, but what's next? What do you do to make your character eligible for high-end activities like raids, Mythic plus, and arena? In this little guide we answer this question step by step: where you should go, what you should do, and why. It will be easy for you to plan your journey with these recommendations, we're sure.

1. Start with Dragon Glyphs

This step is the fastest one but it is very important so make sure to complete it ASAP. Collect all the dragon glyphs to unlock all the talents and travel around the Dragon Isles faster. It will help you get around much more effectively. To collect all the glyphs you will need just about an hour. Check out this video to see the exact location of each one (by Signs of Kelani):

2. Get the Cobalt Assembly Ring ASAP

There's a fast way to unlock a 389 ilvl epic ring. It will take you about an hour to do that. As soon as you've hit 70 lvl and completed the main campaign, travel to Azure Span to find the new faction there – Cobalt Assembly. Do their quests and then farm mobs around their base. Yes, it's pure grind, but it won't take long, don't worry. It's definitely a great idea to grind mobs as a group – you will likely find lots of other lone grinders around. The ring becomes available for purchase from the NPC vendor when you hit the High reputation level with the Assembly. Don't expect it to be too overpowered (to be honest, it's far from that) but it's a lovely stamina and ilvl boost, so get the ring at least for the sake of it. Here's a sweet short video on how to do it right (by BizzleBerry):

3. Turn War Mode on and farm Bloody Tokens

Okay, this might be not what everyone would enjoy doing but it has lots of potential. If you turn your war mode on, you'll see several additional world quests on the map. Those new quests will award you with the new world-PvP currency – Bloody Tokens. The quests don't always focus on killing other players so don't worry about that. Do as many of those quests as you can – safely. The awarded Bloody Tokens are quite numerous and you can use them to purchase items of 366 ilvl which is pretty decent. Do these quests for as long as you need – at some point 366 ilvl will stop being relevant. And remember to turn the war mode on and off – if you forget to do that, you'll run the risk of getting ganked.

To spend your bloody tokens look for the vendor named Fieldmaster Emberath in Valdrakken. You can find him in a cave to the right of the Obsidian Enclave on the map (see the video below to get a better idea).

4. Run dungeons

Dungeons are a great source of loot for everyone who's just starting out. Heroic dungeons drop loot daily: that means that you can complete all the 8 dungeons every day to get loot. It's a huge advantage over Mythic+ 0 dungeons that only drop loot once a week. However, Heroics drop gear of a way lower item level – 359 ilvl. While M+0 gets you 372 ilvl. You won't find it easy to complete the latter right after you've finished leveling up, so start with the former. As soon as 359 ilvl becomes irrelevant for you, forget about Heroics and only do M+0's. Here are all the new dungeons (note that not all of them are used for M+ this season):

5. Hunt rares and super rares

Loot coming from rares scales off your average item level. So all the rules that work with world quests apply here too. There's also the so-called super rares that drop loot only once a week. That loot is usually superior to that coming from regular rares (up to 385 ilvl vs up to 375 ilvl). Make sure to defeat as many regular rares as possible throughout the day. As for super rares, wait till the last day before the reset to have better chances for more powerful loot. How to tell one type of rares from the other? Try databases like Wowhead and in-game add-ons like Weakaura.

Here's a video in which Dratnos gives you a better idea of what rares are and what they look like:

6. Do more activities with weekly rewards

There are more activities that give you a great reward once a week. The ilvl of the reward in question also scales off your gear score so it's important to complete those activities on the last day before the reset. Thus you will have the highest average ilvl of the week for your character which will increase your chances to get stronger gear. The activities that are on this list are:

Most of them are locked behind a certain level of renown with different factions so make sure to invest some time in improving your reputation with them.

7. Level up professions

Finally, if you have run out of things to do and still want to find more sources of loot, professions are a solution for you. Its potential is limited, however: the highest ilvl is 382 and you can only get it with an item dropping from last bosses of M+0 (i.e. you can only have 8 of them each week – and that's quite improbable since it doesn't drop all the time). Nevertheless, we'd not discourage you from leveling up your professions. You will be able to craft several decent items to improve your average ilvl for sure. Also, you will definitely enjoy your profs later when the season starts as the cap for crafted items will increase to 418 ilvl which is only several points short of the highest Mythic raid ilvl – 424.

8. Do other world quests too

Although world-PvP quests are especially lucrative, don't disregard other WQs. Their rewards scale with your item level up to 372. The lowest ilvl you can get for completing them is 356 ilvl. It's a good starting point and the more such items you collect, the higher your average ilvl becomes. Consequently, it will make your rewards better. There's a little tip here for you to consider: first complete all other available activities that can bring you loot today and only after that do world quests. You will have a chance to get better loot for quests since some of those activities you've done before them might bring you better items than you already had. Hence, your average ilvl will grow a little and your world quest rewards might become better.

Here's a video in which MrGM tells you a little about how good world quests in Dragonflight are:

So as you have realized by now, there are lots of sources of gear in the pre-season. They won't change a lot when the season starts, so this guide will remain relevant for fresh characters till the first major content update.

You might believe that it all is not worth the effort, however. If you're a fan of high-end content and are not too enthusiastic about this initial max-lvl gearing (also known as digging in the dirt), we'll say that you have a point. It's not everyone's idea of fun. That's why we have designed a gearing service for anyone who just wants to get good gear and skip all the involved activities. We'll do all the heavy lifting for you and you'll be free to start your Dragonflight's high-end journey sooner and easier! Check it out in our catalog!
