What is PvP in Elder Scrolls Online?

PvP activities in Elder Scrolls Online aren't numerous. To be precise, there are 2 such activities in the whole game: Alliance Wars and Battlegrounds. It makes sense, since ESO is more about trials, dungeons, questing, and gathering collections (of furniture, of course) than about fighting other players. It's not Guild Wars after all. However, if you've been looking for some PvP action, don't let this fact discourage you. You can still have lots of fun with what ESO offers.

What's Alliance Wars?

ESO's "open-world" PvP mode is called Alliance Wars and it takes place in a massive zone of Cyrodiil. There you can participate in a full scale war, siege or defend castles, and even become an emperor! There are entire communities dedicated to dominating Alliance Wars and lots of strategy and intrigue are involved in all that. That's almost like a separate game at this point. It doesn't mean that you have to give up all the beauties of Tamriel as you've known them to enjoy the PvP mode – not at all. We just want to show you how exciting and fun these Alliance Wars can be. Naturally, you can choose how much game time to spend on it if at all. But we'd certainly recommend at least giving it a try since ESO PvP is so underestimated.

How to participate in Alliance Wars?

It's easy: just open the dedicated window inside the game, choose one of the currently active campaigns, and press "Go to campaign". Each campaign has its progress and you can choose which of them suits you best. Don't think too much about it at first – if you have no idea how to tell the difference between the campaigns you see, just pick any and learn by playing.

Oh, by the way, you gotta find the Alliance Wars window first! That's also easy: just press L if you play on PC / Mac or go to main menu and choose Campaigns if you play on a console.

What are the rewards of Alliance Wars?

The most frequently given reward in Alliance Wars is Alliance Points that you can use to purchase gear, siege equipment, and more. They are essential for getting a decent PvP build and you will earn them for participating in Campaigns. Other rewards include gold, items (blue and purple), and more valuable stuff. The most desired reward is the Emperor, of course. It's an appearance set and a title. The set is yours to keep forever but the title goes away after another Emperor takes your place (it will most likely happen at the end of the following campaign).
