The War Within follows the familiar formula of adding several new zones wrapped in a new landmass. This time it's Khaz Algar, an island lost in the sea somewhere West of Pandaria. Take a look at the map of it:
The map is a bit strange, isn't it? The reason for that is that this time we're going deep underground! Most landmasses in WoW are similar to a single apartment with various zones representing different rooms. But Khaz Algar, the new region, is more like a several storey building where each zone is a separate floor. Surprisingly for such a construction, we'll enter that building at the top floor and will travel downwards.
Let's take a closer look at each new zone that we'll visit on this unique journey!
Isle of Dorn
The Isle of Dorn is the first zone you visit in Khaz Algar and it's currently the only one that you can see the sky in. That is, it's a regular open world zone not located inside any sort of a cave. It's verdant, hilly, has lakes, ancient ruins (apparently, related to the Titans). It has this amazing vibe of a zone where your new adventure just starts and where you feel mostly safe and cozy.
It's also the place where you'll keep coming back to for a while as the expansion's main hub Dornogal is located here. It's where most Earthen live, the stone dwarves that we'll get a chance to unlock as an allied race. There's something celtic about their culture, housing, and toponyms. Dorongal doesn't sound that different from Donegal, a beautiful county in the North of Ireland. And the landscapes of the Isle of Dorn are not that much different from those of Ireland, actually, so it seems like it was a huge inspiration for the devs.

The Ringing Deeps
From Dornogal you can start your descent into the unexpectedly lively and buzzing underground world of Khaz Aglar. The first zone you'll visit is The Ringing Deeps. Some would say that it has similarities with Zaralek Cavern from Dragonflight – and they would be right in a way. It's also a massive cave with several sub-caverns, pools of lava, and rocks and stones as far as eyes can see. But it's not just that.
First of all, the zone surprisingly has a lot of vegetation. So if you thought that your eyes would get bored with the red, orange, and brown colors, don't worry. The zone offers much more diversity than Zaralek and you'll realize that quite soon after arrival. It also applies to its activities: we believe that most players would agree that Zaralek couldn't really entertain you for long and had an obvious shortage of things to do. The Ringing Deeps have tons of content and, most notably, delves that are really fun to play and you absolutely should try them.

Hallowfall
While the other 3 zones are all stunning and great in their own way, Hallowfall is where the creativity of the development team peaked this time. It's a massive cavern that has a seashore and an artificial sun. Now would you expect that from an underground zone? The Underground Sea washes the shores of this exotic land and the colossal radiant crystal Beledar is shining over it. Beledar gives enough light and warmth for vegetation to grow lavishly – and that's what makes this gigantic cavern so different from any other.
It's funny that such an outlandish place is inhabited by the most basic race in the game: humans! They are members of the Arathi clan who traveled from their native land in the Eastern Kingdoms and for some reason decided to live underground in the most surreal place imaginable. What's interesting is that Hallowfall definitely has some similarities with human-inhabited regions of Eastern Kingdom. Perhaps, Arathi Highlands is the closest reference.
But they don't just live happily, enjoying their gem-sun and picturesque subterranean beaches. They are survivors who have fought against Nerubians, the spider people for quite some time already. This is the first time in this expansion that you'll get in close contact with Nerubians – and it's definitely not the last one.

Azj-Kahet
Azj-Kahet is the land of Nerubians. It's the deepest zone of the 4 and it shows it with both lighting and nature. The lights are dim, the vegetation isn't plentiful – instead, lots of mushrooms grow here. It's damp and dark but this place certainly has its charm. We'd say that ambience-wise it's a mix between Deepholm (Cataclysm) and Ahn-Kahet (Wrath of the Lich King).
Despite having the vibe of the most dangerous place in the expansion so far – and it's so for a reason – it still has several welcoming parts. For example, the City of Threads, the Nerubian capital. It's a proper megapolis with its own complex hierarchy, slums and dwellings of the wealthy. It also has an impressive palace that is the first raid of the expansion – Nerub'ar Palace. You'll participate in an exciting storyline telling the story of class and ideological division among its citizens. Uncovering ancient mysteries and investigating various arcane phenomena are also part of the story – you'll definitely enjoy the campaign there, as it's quite well-designed!

So those were all the 4 new zones that we'll get upon the expansion's release. It's not known yet how it will develop in the future: will we get another "floor" with a new zone located below Azj-Kahet or above the Isle of Dorn? Or will some of these levels get expanded in a more familiar fashion, that is horizontally? The Underground sea next to Hallowfall seems to have lots of potential in this regard... Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves: first we should enjoy what we get as a part of the first bunch, the rest will become known in due time!
