WHAT IS DETERMINISTIC CHAOS?

Deterministic Chaos is one of the best weapons of the Lightfall expansion. It's an exotic power machine gun. You get it by completing a lengthy quest line. It uses heavy ammo and deals void damage.

HOW IS IT GOOD?

Not only does it tons of damage like any worthy machine gun is expected to do, but also it has a number of useful features that makes it stand out. For example, the Heavy Metal exotic perk makes every fourth bullet you shoot a heavy projectile. As it hits an enemy, it weakens them. It can only work while holding down the trigger – so it's basically "every fourth bullet in a row after you start shooting". Another perk "Vexadecimal" makes each fourth bullet turn your enemies volatile which makes your impact more significant.

Non-unique perks are numerous and the recommended are Polygonal Rifling (+ stability), Ricochet Rounds (+ stability & range), and Composite Stock (+ stability & handling).

HOW DO YOU UNLOCK IT?

To obtain this machine gun, you gotta complete a complex quest chain. That quest chain can be started after you're done with the Lightfall campaign. The first part of the quest line in question is "Unfinished Business". It will be followed by numerous steps including collecting Cipher Qubits, farming Cloud Accretions, running a Lost Sector (to be more precise, the Thrilladrome), and, of course, shooting enemies. This time it's mostly Vex that will suffer but does it really make any difference? To start the quest line, talk to Nimbus after finishing the Lightfall campaign.
