Is the LOU first boss worth defeating in the Mythic mode?

The 1st boss of any Mythic raid is always a great entry point to true high-end content for casual players. Even if you won't progress further than 1/8 in the hardest mode of Liberation of Undermine, defeating the starter boss is already a good achievement. Besides, there's some impressive loot there...

We encourage you to try fighting Vexie & The Geargrinders, the first challenge of the LOU raid. It's the easiest boss encounter to beat there, yet the valuable items Vexie holds are no worse than others. This blog post is dedicated to showing you what riches you can get for winning over Vexie and her noisy machines. Let's see what they have!

1. A Damage-Enhancing Trinket

Item name: Geargrinder's Spare Keys

Description: This trinket provides lots of primary stats (Agility, Strength, or Intellect, depending on your spec) – but stats are not what we love trinkets for. It's all about their effects, of course. And this one does something truly awesome: you can activate it to summon a geargrinder machine. It will automatically move in the direction you were facing when you summoned it. When it hits the first hostile object in its way, it will explode, dealing AOE Fire damage.

Ah, the good old goblin engineering!.. While it's easy to predict that any goblin gizmo is bound to blow up at some point, it always fills your heart with joy and warmth when it eventually does.

Why we love it: It's fun, it's powerful, and it perfectly reflects the personality of the boss who drops it. First off, these keys are exactly the kind of thing that you'd expect Vexie to have in her pocket. And second, it literally summons a geargrinder, similar to the ones from the boss fight.

2. A Gear Power-Up

Item name: Gilded Undermine Crest

Description: This is the Mythic version of the Undermine Crest, a gear power-up resource that drops from all bosses of Liberation of Undermine. You can use it to upgrade any Hero & Myth items from Season 2 to 662 ilvl or even higher.

Some people are still a bit confused about the way these crests describe their application but we'll try to clear it up. "Hero & Myth items" expectedly come from the Heroic & Mythic versions of the LOU raid. But it's not just raid gear that these crests can upgrade.

In fact, you can also apply them to items from Mythic Plus dungeons (all great vault rewards from M+ and end-of-the-dungeon rewards starting from M+6) and Delves (bounty rewards from level 8 and beyond).

Why we love it: There's no better resource for upgrading gear than the one dropped by Mythic bosses. Even if you're unlucky and don't get any useful items from Vexie, defeating her weekly will at least let you accumulate Gilded Crests. That will let you gradually upgrade all the gear you already have.

3. A Well-Rounded Cloak

Item name: Undercircuit Racing Flag

Description: It's a solid reliable item that gets you plenty of the main stat (Agility, Strength, or Intellect, depending on your spec), loads of Stamina, and lovely bonuses to Critical Strike & Haste. An upgrade that any character would welcome.

Why we love it: It might be nothing special but it delivers great value. It can also be used by all specs and it's likely better than any non-Mythic cloak you currently have.

4. A Tank Trinket

Items' names: Vexie's Pit Whistle

Description: The active effect of this trinket summons a robot that... spreads oil on the nearby enemies? Yep, that's exactly what it does! Unsurprisingly, the oiled enemies take that as a challenge. That makes your threat to them rise and they make you their primary target. Which is just what you need as a tank – a little help for keeping the aggro.

The robot also explodes (oh my, who'd have thought?) 5 seconds after activation. Nearby enemies receive Fire damage, which is 15% higher if they've been "oiled". So, to sum up, it helps you with aggro and deals AOE damage.

Why we love it: It does everything a tank trinket should and makes a great alternative to the Gallywix tank trinket. And of course it's easier to get than the Gallywix one as this one comes from the first boss of the raid. It also has a fun animation and is very in line with Vexie's personality.

5. A Plate Helmet

Item name: Fullthrottle Facerig

Description: A non-set plate helmet that increases your armor, main stat (Strength or Intellect), and Stamina. In addition you get a solid increase to Critical Strike and a smaller Haste boost.

Why we love it: "Head" is valued above all other armor slots. So plate-wearers are lucky to get this option, although not a tier-one, from the introductory boss. It's an easy upgrade that only requires a little bit of luck.

What else does Vexie drop?

Our top 5 best items can give you a great idea of what to expect from the boss. But you need a fuller picture – and what can paint it better than the full list of items? So here it is!

While most of those items can be obtained in other difficulties too, their Mythic version is going to be the best one, quite expectedly. Since Vexie & The Geargrinders are the opening boss of LOU, you should expect their Mythic loot to be 662 ilvl. It's very high! It's higher than the loot from Gallywix and Mug'Zee at the Heroic version, safe for very rare items that have ilvl 665.
