What are portrait boosts in Hearthstone?
Portrait boosts in Heartshtone are meant to make it easier for you to update your hero's appearance. We'd say that portraits are similar to skins in many other games – except for it's a class that the skins are applied to, not a character. Say, you play a paladin and you can make your paladin Uther (default) or Arthas, for example. Or you can keep Uther but make the rims of the portrait golden. There are plenty of ways to customize your appearance in the game and you shouldn't ignore these opportunities!
What hero portraits are there in HS?
We remember the times when alternative hero portraits were a rarity. These days there are multitudes of options to choose from and some of them are even relatively accessible. Let's see what types of hero portraits there are:
- default heroes
- 1'000-win skins
- 1'200 gold portraits
- 1'800 gold portraits
- 2'500 runestone skins
- rewards track portraits
- tavern regular portraits
- unique objectives rewards
That's a lot. Let's make it as simple as possible. The default heroes are what you have, well, by default. Those are Jaina, Thrall, Gul'dan, and so on. One per class. 1000-win portraits are unlocked after scoring 1k victories total in these game modes: ranked, Arena, Duels. These are literally skins as they offer an alternative appearance of a default hero: for example, Jaina becomes a fire mage, while Thrall puts on his warchief armor, and so on.
1'200 and 1'800-gold portraits give you new heroes altogether. Your druid is no longer Malfurion – it's Lunara. Your Mage is not Jaina any more – now it's Medivh. And so on. You can just purchase these heroes with gold whenever you have 1'200 or 1'800 coins to spare. Naturally, we can help you with collecting the required amount.
Runestone portraits are premium rewards that can only be purchased with real money. The portraits are legendary and look really great but there's no way you can get them without spending extra money which might put off people who are not into micro transactions.
Rewards Track portraits come in different shapes and sizes. You can have some of them for free, while some other will require purchasing the paid track. The idea of this track is doing various activities during a season that lasts until the release of the next expansion. The more activities you've done, the more XP you've collected, and the more rewards you can get. Every 200 levels you get on your rewards track also unlocks you a Tavern Regular portrait, so there's even more to it.
Unique objectives' portraits are trickier as they include numerous different sources. Most of them are expansion preorders (obviously, you can't pre-ordrer the expansions that have already been released, so there are many unavailable portraits). However, there are some portraits not related to that, like Prince Arthas that is given for completing the Lich King challenge in Hearthstone with all classes and so on.
Which of these portraits are worth it?
Actually, whichever you personally prefer are the best for you. However, the more challenging it is to obtain the portrait, the more admiration you'll get from your friends for unlocking it. Hence 1'000-win portraits are classy indeed.
