What are raid & trial carries in FF14?

Raid & trial carries in Final Fantasy XIV are handy services that make it easier for you to beat the hardest PvE challenges in the game. What is the difference between a raid and a trial?

There are actually 3 types of high-end instances in Final Fantasy 14 and they are:

Trials
Alliance raids
Raids

Trials	They require 8 players (full party) and have several difficulties: Normal, Hard, and High-End (Extreme and Unreal). Extreme is the hardest difficulty for modern trials, while Unreal is a very challenging upscaled version of old ones. However, even the hardest versions of trials are supposed to take you not more than 15 minutes to beat. With our trial carries you will need even less time. The instances themselves involve just one major boss fight and that's it.
Alliance raids	They are really massive in terms of how much action is going on in them and how many players are expected to participate – as many as 24! That's a huge team! Luckily, the difficulty of alliance raids is not high and they are quite similar to dungeons in that regard.
Raids	They require a full party of players (8) and have 3 difficulties: Normal, Savage, and Ultimate. The higher the difficulty, the better the loot. Normal is more or less beatable for most players, while Savage draws the division line between casuals and hardcorers. Ultimate raids are for the mightiest few who have really lots of time and skill.

That's what the differences among these 3 game modes are! They have lots of similarity, that's true, but you still should learn no to mix them up!

What rewards can I get from raids and trials?

The biggest selling point of these instances, so to speak, is the gear you can get in them. There are 2 ways you can obtain it: directly from a boss (a boss dies and drops loot) or in the form of a high-end currency. The currencies differ among the raids and expansions but what remains the same is the purpose. If you collect enough of them, you can purchase some of FFXIV's finest gear and weapons. As for direct drops, that’s also a great thing but it’s always random and you can only loot bosses once a week so it’s not the most reliable source of equipment.
