The gameplay of it is quite unique and you need some learning before completing it successfully. Learning means dying in the world of OSRS, so there's that...

What is Wintertodt in OSRS?
Wintertodt is a boss but he hardly makes such an impression. You see, unlike most other bosses, it's not something even at least partly animate – it's a... sort of a huge gust of wind and snow? A mini tornado of a kind or a little storm or something like that. Yeah, we'd not say that we're entirely positive on what it is either.
Anyway, whatever it is, you gotta defeat it. You don't do that with weapons and magic. Defeating Wintertodt includes outsmarting it, solving a puzzle basically. The challenge is aimed at taming this storm-born creature and you'll have to assist a group of pyromancers to calm it down. Having a high skill level in Firemaking will help you succeed but a high digit there won't make it a pleasure cruise. You'll still have to put in some effort.
What rewards can I get for defeating it?
Wintertodt is an unpleasant boss since it's quite challenging and unorthodox. Just pouring lots of damage into it won't do, you have to learn and adapt. And if at some point of the process you'll find yourself wondering why you actually have to suffer this, remember the rewards that you can get for succeeding. Here are several of them:
