Q: How do you make money with herbalism?

A: Unlike crafting professions, there's only one way to level up a gathering profession like herbalism. You gather stuff, that's all you have to do. That involves cruising around zones of the current or any other content and picking up everything that you see on the mini map. As simple that. A: Each expansion has its own unique zones and each of those zones has a unique set of herbs that grow there. Visiting a Cataclysm zone is different from visiting a Legion zone as you will not find identical plants there. Cata zones will have their own plants, while Legion – their own. And it applies to all the zones and expansions. You might wonder, why would anyone care about leveling up herbalism for an old expansion? Well, it's all about cosmetic items that alchemists can create – and not just them. Time passes and stats get squished but cosmetic items remain popular. So, say, the Vial of Sands is still of interest to lots of players and to craft it an alchemist needs to spend some time leveling up Cataclysm alchemy. What ingredients would an alchemist need for that? That's right, Cataclysm herbs which you can only collect if you've leveled up your Cataclysm herbalism to a decent level. That's why it matters. However, the current expansion's herbalism is always in way more demand than any other so if you think that you don't really care about older expansions, it's actually quite alright.
