Blizzard decided to use the blueprints that they had for their original PvP modes to create a new one that debuts in SOD. Now the whole vast zone Ashenvale becomes an open-world battleground and if you choose to participate in it, you'll enjoy it for sure!

What is even the Battle for Ashenvale?

If you're a veteran Classic player who gets confused by the name of the "Battle for Ashenvale", don't worry. Nobody knew anything about it before the Season of Discovery release. It's a brand new thing in a good old game and like most such things it draws lots of attention to it and seems very mysterious to everyone.

What it really is an open-world version of Alterac Valley but for low-level characters. Whenever a honorable kill happens in Ashenvale, a progress indicator appears for all players in the zone. When those indicators are filled (i.e. they show 100%), the battle for Ashenvale begins. You have 2 main bosses: Felore Moonray (Alliance) and Kazagore (Horde). Either faction has to protect their boss and defeat that of the opposing side. There are also lieutenants who are sort of mini-bosses: either faction has 3 of them. Defeating them all will greatly raise your chances of defeating the main boss and winning the battle.

What are the rewards?

The rewards are quite enjoyable and include the following things:

Honor points	The main PvP currency that you can buy most PvP items with.
Warsong Gulch faction reputation	Your reputation progress with your side's WSG faction will improve: Silverwing Sentinels for the Alliance and Warsong Outriders for the Horde.
Brand new rare head items	In the Season of Discovery WSG factions now have 20+ lvl rare helmets as reputation rewards. There are 3 of them in total: Resilient Mail Coif (mail) Resilient Leather Mask (leather) Resilient Cloth Headband (cloth)
New mounts	Now this is really interesting. There are 2 mounts that increase your speed by 50%, can be only used in Ashenvale, and – the craziest part – can be used starting at level 25. If you don't see how that's special, we'll remind you that in the Vanilla mounts can only be used since level 40.
