Diablo 4 is going to be one of the biggest games of 2023. We're sure that when it finally launches on June 2 all the Internet will be talking about it. Well, the gaming part of it at least. And there are all the reasons to expect that: another full-fledged entry in a huge franchise simply can't remain unnoticed in this day and age. So even if you haven't played a single Diablo game, you'll hear a lot about it and most likely consider trying it yourself. In this article we've covered everything you need to know before trying the fourth DIablo!
What is Diablo 4 like?
For those of you who haven't had much experience with previous parts of the franchise, the Diablo series is dedicated to isometric action RPG. It's basically what Lost Ark and Path of Exile are. And those 2 games actually were inspired by Diablo games in the first place. Gameplay-wise, Diablo 4 is going to be quite similar to its direct predecessor, Diablo 3, although there will be some changes. But they won't be impactful enough to take the game to another genre. Here's what Diablo 4 gameplay looks like (click to play this video):
Playing Diablo games?
If you already play any of the currently available Diablo games – and there are lots of them – you might be interested to get some pro help there. We have boosting services for Diablo 3, Diablo 2 Resurrected, and Diablo Immortal – check them out in the dedicated section on our website!
Open-world gameplay
Unlike Diablo 3 and many other similar ARPGs, Diablo 4 will feature a massive open world. That means that you'll have a seamless experience of traveling from one part of the world to another. And there'll be plenty to explore. Each zone will feature its own story and you can always choose how to continue your adventure – the game won't make you deal with stories in a particular order. Lots of online features
Diablo 4 is an always-online game that is filled with numerous players. You can always find a team to take on a world boss or just someone to play with or chat. The game won't surround with crowds of other players all the time – you will mainly see them in safe places like towns and at the group activities (for example, a world boss that is supposed to be downed by several players). It's not yet clear what are the rules for the game to bring other players to you or let you play alone for a while but so far the gameplay videos we've seen look alright in this regard. Looks like Blizzard have managed to achieve certain balance for it. As for dungeons and other instanced areas, you will not see anyone there unless you're in a group with someone. Here's how it works (click to play this video):
There'll be 5 classes
Most long-time fans of the series would deem this to be the biggest question about the new game: what classes are there? There are 5 classes total in the release version of the game and those classes are:
Barbarian
Druid
Necromancer
Rogue
Sorceress
The lineup is quite different from what we had in Diablo 3. The only 2 starter classes here that were also featured in the previous game's release version are barbarian and sorceress. Necromancer was added much later while druid and rogue made no appearance at all. Rogue looks somewhat similar to the mixture of demon hunter and monk's abilities and aesthetics but it's too late now to say for sure. Druid is an obvious throwback to Diablo 2's expanded roster. Here's a sneak peek at gameplay of each class (click to play this video):
Progression systems are numerous
The skill tree is huge and has lots of options for any class. You're definitely not likely to run out of those options soon as you can try your champion in many different roles in different situations and environments. But that's not where your performance customization ends: the paragon system makes a comeback. As you've reached the maximum level, you'll start progressing with this other system that will give you lots of benefit. And it's not character-specific but account-wide. All your champions contribute to your roster's might. Apart from these 2 major systems, there are so many local ones that enhance your gameplay in new ways as well. Items will feel different
The idea behind changes in items for Diablo 4 was to make them more impactful. In Diablo 3 only legendary items counted and all the rest didn't matter a lot in the end game. Diablo 4's devs pledge to make different types of items more important too. That will make your itemization choices more meaningful. Specifically, Rare and Unique (replacing Mythic) items will get a considerable boost.
There will also be 3 new stats that will work in a quite peculiar way:
Ancestral power
Angelic power
Demonic power
The Ancestral power increases the chance of your procs. The Angelic power increases the duration of beneficial effects while the demonic power – you guessed it – increases the duration of all negative effects that you inflict on your hostile targets.
Overall, stats have been made more accessible and understandable. So it will be easier for both new and veteran players to have a better idea of what they get with each new item and what they have to trade that for.
***
There are of course lots of other awesome things in Diablo 4 but the ones we've mentioned above seem to be the most important ones to whoever is just thinking of giving this game a try. You can find lots of exciting gameplay videos that showcase numerous new and returning systems and features for all classes. It's exciting to have such a huge game release so soon!
